PERIDONTAL TREATMENT

Gum disease is a problem for over 80% of the adult population. Because it often goes unnoticed until the later stages, it has often been called a "silent epidemic" in American culture.

Periodontal Disease range from simple gum inflammation to serious disease, that results in major damage to the soft tissue and bone that support the teeth. In worst cases teeth are lost.

Cause:

Mainly bacteria along with mucus and other particles which constantly form a sticky, colorless “plaque” on the teeth. Brushing and flossing help get rid of plaque. When plaque is not removed it mineralizes into bacteria-harboring “tartar” that cannot be removed with regular home hygiene care. Only a professional cleaning can remove the tartar.

Gingivitis = inflammation of the gums caused by plaque and tartar. Gums become red, swollen, and can bleed easily.

Periodontitis = inflammation around the bone of the tooth and inflammation of the periodontium (surrounding tissue). If not treated the bone, gums, and connective tissue that support the teeth are destroyed by bacterial toxins, plaque, and tartar.
